I was more than delighted when the Night Shelter Charity asked to use my High Street photo for the front of their Christmas Card.  A good cause run by nice, caring people. I later learned it was Winchester’s best selling Charity Card.

At noon today the soldiers of the Princess of Wales Regiment marched into Winchester City Centre, with bayonets fixed, to receive the Freedom of the City.  They were led in by the Band of the Royal Engineers.  It was a great spectacle. The Hat Fair is Britain’s longest running festival of street theatre and outdoor arts – taking place in Winchester on the first weekend of July each year. The name originates from the practice of placing a hat on the floor for donations. These days many visitors attend adorned in all manner of fancy hats adding a bit more colour to the festival atmosphere. Artists from around the world perform from Friday to Sunday on pitches in the ancient city and around the mighty cathedral and wandering performers can be found just about anywhere.
